The light of life

“Jesus spoke to the people again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12, NIV) On the day of the heavy snowfall, I looked up at a tree on the street and felt a different sensation compared to gazing at trees in a summer forest. In that moment, I realized that perhaps one does not need to travel far to encounter beauty. Even in the most ordinary surroundings, there is something unique; just as all things in the world carry a divine purpose. In the familiar places around us, unnoticed miracles are always waiting to be discovered. In winter, trees shed their leaves, leaving only bare branches. Yet what brings hope is the certainty that they will soon come back to life, sprouting new leaves and even bearing fruit. But all of this is only possible if the tree is truly alive, carrying life within itself. For the yellow tree in my painting, I wanted to express that its life is rooted in God, nourished and guided by His presence. The world is vast, complex, and ever-changing. Humans, like trees, are easily influenced by their surroundings, for better or worse. What we grow into depends entirely on the life within us. Therefore, where we take root and what kind of nourishment we absorb ultimately shape who we become.
