“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9) In this painting, a small boat carrying a new leaf floats on the surface of the sea. The surface appears calm, but beneath it lies turbulent waters. This reflects my experience as an international student and artist—appearing composed outwardly while facing hidden challenges such as family expectations, financial pressures, and personal doubts. Yet, just as this boat is protected by a deeper power, I feel a spiritual sense of protection and growth. The layered collage effect symbolizes a world full of chaos, temptations, and challenges. The new leaf in the boat represents a fresh beginning, growth, and hope—guided and guarded by an unseen divine presence. Despite the surrounding storms, I can move forward safely, rooted and thriving in an eternal realm. I incorporated text elements from a map within the collage, inspired by the biblical story of Exodus—Moses led by God to bring the Israelites out of Egypt, through the Red Sea and the wilderness, finally reaching the Promised Land of Canaan. This journey is not only one of physical liberation but also of faith, perseverance, and divine guidance. It deeply resonates with my own path—navigating through the wilderness of life, guided through uncertainty, and ultimately reaching my own promised destination. Just as the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and journeyed through the wilderness, I too face and overcome personal limitations and challenges. Amid the storms, I trust an invisible hand steers me, allowing me to hold onto hope and find direction and belonging.
