Still in the darkness

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness." (1 John 2:9, NIV) The story of Jingwei Filling the Sea from the Classic of Mountains and Seas tells of Jingwei, the daughter of the Flame Emperor, who tragically drowned in the Eastern Sea. She transformed into a bird named Jingwei and vowed to fill the sea with twigs and stones to prevent others from suffering the same fate. However, beneath Jingwei’s actions lie strong emotions of hatred and vengeance. Her actions are driven by anger and grief, reflecting a state bound by these powerful feelings. Harboring hatred keeps a person in darkness, unable to truly live in the freedom and peace of the light. While determination and resilience are commendable, they should not be rooted in hatred. True freedom and enlightenment come from the healing of these destructive emotions. Only God can deliver us from hatred, heal our hearts with His love, and lead us into His embrace, where we grow in love and accomplish truly beautiful works that glorify Him.
